HISTORY OF SIRIUS PARK GERMAN SHEPHERDS
1986-1996 1997-2006 2007-2011
Sirius Park Kennel was established in 1986 with the purchase of our first pure-bred female shepherd, Rustic's Q.T., who served as the foundation of our breeding program today. We are a small breeding, showing and hobby kennel, located in the northwest corner of Smithfield, Rhode Island. Our facility features a completely chain linked property of five country acres that affords our animals plenty of room to grow and thrive in a natural setting. Our kennel compound features large, outdoor runs nestled under mature oak trees to provide a comfortable environment for our dogs. Our puppy kennel and holding area for females to be bred is separated from the main kennel. There are large paddocks for exercising and play. At night or in inclement weather, all dogs are kenneled inside. All our dogs, especially the puppies, are given attention on a daily basis to insure proper socialization and smooth transition into new homes. Since our establishment we have been dedicated to the promotion and improvement of our wonderful breed. Our dogs are bred for soundness of temperament, soundness in health and conformation, or the "look of eagles" or nobility, as emphasized in the breed standard. Our breedings have evolved from American lines. We believe in the promotion of good hips and all our breeding stock has been x-rayed and/or approved by the Orthopedic Foundation. Therefore, our breedings are selective and planned with future generations in mind.
We have bred German Shepherds that have served as companion dogs for individuals and families, therapy dogs, service dogs, obedience, agility, herding, and conformation dogs. Since our inception, we have been fortunate to have bred some very beautiful German Shepherds who have been recognized as oustanding representations of the breed. Many of those dogs are featured on the following pages of our website. Some of those accolades include: Award of Excellence (AOE), Select American and Canadian Champions, Futurity and Maturity Winners, Best Puppy at the German Shepherd Club of America's National Specialty Show, titled Companion Dogs and registered Therapy Dogs. One of our dogs, Ch. Sirius Park's Monogram even worked for the political campaign of Rhode Island's present Lt. Governor Charles Fogarty. Ch. Monogram was featured in the television campaign ads, attended the political rallies, and served as the symbolic "watchdog" for the Rhode Island state retirement system. Monogram aka "Mason" provided a delightful addition to the campaign rallies, especially for the children in attendance. Finally, we co-bred the 2004 Grand Victress G.V. Sel. Ch. Hickoryhill's Godiva Sirius Park.

1986-1996 1997-2006 2007-2011
In 1999 we whelped a very promising puppy who at first was overshadowed by the earlier accomplishments of our older dogs. This special whelp was named Worth the Trip since we had driven through blinding snowstorms to and from Indiana to breed his dam Ch. Ivy League OFA. We had planned a breeding to the future Grand Victor Hickoryhill's Bull Durham ROM. Tripper was the only whelp in the litter, but what a puppy!
Tripper would not be undone by his former kennel mates. His tribute can be found in our website and we hope that viewers will enjoy just a small part of his story. Tripper's entire career culminated in a final hurrah at the 2009 National Speciality Show. There he won the 9-11 Veterans class and later exhibited his outstanding conformation and temperment in the Best of Breed class. He traversed the ring with another young handler, a junior eight months younger and forty pounds lighter than our beautiful boy. Marie Oster at the tender age of ten took our boy around the ring to the applause and standing ovation of the German Shepherd fancy. It was a magical moment and Tripper's final gift to all of us. We lost him less than a week later, but he left us with so many wonderful memories and a lasting legacy to the German Shepherd breed and Sirius Park Kennel.
While Tripper was building his show career, we acquired one of his progeny from our good friends, Joseph and Maria Bihari. Her name was Bihari' sYola of Sirius Park. She finished her championship in six months with our new and upcoming handler, Sean Conboy. We bred Yola to Grand Victor Mar Haven"s And the Beat Goes On ROM. From that breeding we kept Sirius Park's Kojak Bihari. Kojak finished his championship in twelve shows and was also a Futurity winner. He has gone on to produce champions and qualifiers who contribute to his future ROM.
One of Kojak's champions, Ch. Sirius Park's Santana OFA finished his championship in the same fashion as his sire. He too has sired some very promising get who are still very young. His first progeny to be exhibited won the Best in Olympics award just this past spring of 2011. This spring of 2011 Santana aka "Carlos" has also taken several Best of Breed awards and looks forward to a very promising career as a special and a producer.
Two other young stars have been working on future championships and also exhibit promise for the future in the show ring. Our young girl Sirius Park's Vegas Show Girl ( Sel. Ch. Lyloak's First Knight OFA x Sirius Park's Riley RR ) now has one major and our newest boy Sirius Park's Walk On The Wild Side (Weitz's Canto of Bihari Sirius x Hillkrest's Tia of Bihari) garnered Reserve Futurity Dog at the 2011 Mid-Atlantic Futurity his first time in the show ring.
We have done two breedings in 2011. The first (Fellsway's Black Hawk Down x Hillkrest's Tia of Bihari ) gave us some beautiful pups . Sirius Park's Eternity is in residence with co-owner Jan Weatherbee and we look forward to beginning her career in the fall. The second litter will be born in the next few days. The breeding is Ch. Sirius Park's Santana OFA x Sirius Park's Victoria's Secret ). At Sirius Park we are excited about the pedigree and the future pups. Look for photos of the litter in the pup section of the website.
We truly hope that you enjoy looking at our website and reading about our dogs.

Codie's show career was cut short by an unfortunate
accident, but not before he gave us some moments of excitement.
He earned several Best Puppy wins, placed second in the 6-9 class
at the GSDCA National Specialty show at just six months old,
received Reserve Futurity Southeast and a four point major -
all before fifteen months old. He is the sire of Sirius Park's
Jalepeno Peppers.
Our kennel Ambassador and housedog, Sirius Park's Zipcode "Cody", at 11 years old, still greets all our guest with a wag of his tail, a merry gleam in his eye, and his favorite toy for them to throw.

Q.T. provided an excellent foundation for our breeding program. Although she was bred four times, Q.T. only produced twenty-one progeny in her litters. From these breedings Q.T. gave us three champions;
Ch. Sirius Park's Arabian Knight OFA, Ch. Sirius Park's Far East OFA, and
Ch. Sirius Park's Ivy League OFA, plus three qualifiers. These progeny made
Q.T. the first ROM producer in Rhode Island.

Our Newest Puppy Stars ~ The Future ~
Our breedings are the result of long hours of planning
and research. As previously stated, we consider soundness of mind
and body the most important elements of our breeding choices and
we breed with the intention of adding new progeny to our own kennel.
Our pups are raised in a home environment and socialized daily. The
puppies enjoy experiences such as trips to the park, walks in the
woods, and plenty of play time to facilitate a smooth transition
to new homes. Our pups depart for new homes at twelve weeks old. They
are certified to be in good health at the time of their departure
and will already have been given three of the four booster shots
required for protection from common canine diseases.
We invite you
to peruse the following photos of our pups. We recommend, if you
wish to secure one of our puppies, that you contact us today. We
have a list of planned breedings and would be glad to include you
as a prospective new owner. Finally, we offer boarding and grooming
services to all animals that have been acquired at Sirius Park.

Tripper was the only whelp in Ivy's last litter, but what a puppy! He took his first major from the 9-12 class and he was off and running. He has accomplished much in his five years - proved his worth in the show ring and as a producer. To us, he is the total German Shepherd in one handsome package. He has superior temperament and a brain. Presently he is working on a herding title and doing what German Shepherds were originally bred to do. We expect more excitement and accomplishments
from Tripper and his progeny.
